The name is derived from the Latin phrase “pars pro toto” (“a part for the whole”) and can freely be translated as “love for the whole world.” The idea is to bring people together - regardless of gender, religion, or background - in a digital community where everyone can express “I love you” and spread love throughout the world.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003elove pro toto is a “social sculpture”, a work of art in the form of a social network. Or rather: a platform for love on the world wide web. At the beginning of the 1980s, Hildebrandt turned increasingly to the electronic media of television, computer and screen text (BTX), later also video, in order to critically question the processes of image production typical of these devices in his art. The examination of the structure and mode of production of media images is an essential aspect of his art.
