Gerlinde Beck
1930 Bad Cannstatt - 2006 Großglattbach
Gerlinde Beck studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart under Willi Baumeister, among others, and also did an apprenticeship as a fine-metal-technician. Beck was active as a sculptor and painter.
She has made a name for herself with commissioned works for "Kunst am Bau" and in public spaces. Her works have been exhibited many times and can be seen in numerous museums. She became known to a wider public with "Klangstraße," created between 1973 and 1984, a series of twelve individual sculptures made of various materials used to produce sound. In 1985, the metal sculptures, which had been expanded into a "Klangstraße," were presented as a musical source of sound during the "Tage der Neuen Musik" (Days of New Music) in Würzburg. In 1992 the "Klangstraße" was the center of interest at an event of the Hochschule für Musik Trossingen. For the description of her sculptures and installations integrated into the space, the artist herself found the term room choreography.
In 1996, she founded the Gerlinde Beck Foundation, primarily to support young artists.
