Gert Mähler was a freelance photographer. He had numerous individual exhibitions such as "Visages de Paris" in the Institutes Française Munich, Mainz, Hamburg, 1960/61; "Fotografik", Commerzbank Augsburg, 1965; "Begegnungen", traveling exhibition in Prague, Budapest, Romania, 1967/68 and also various group exhibitions.
From 1967-1972 he was "Vorsitzender des Landesverbandes Bayern im Verband Deutscher Auskunfts- und Verzeichnismedien e.V.", from 1972 to 1979 lecturer for photography at the "Staats-Institut für die Ausbildung von Fachlehrern an der Pädagogischen Hochschule" in Augsburg and from 1971 to 1978 President of the "Verband Deutscher Auskunfts- und Verzeichnismedien e.V.".
