Tal Rosenzweig was born in Israel during the Six-Day War to a Danish mother and Czech father. The family moved to Denmark six months later. Tal R. studied at the Copenhagen Billedskolen from 1986 to 1988 with Erik Steffensen, among others. From 1991 to 1993 he was a teacher at the Nutcracker Art School in Copenhagen. He then began studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Denmark in 1994, graduating in 2000. In the same year he was a visiting professor at the Helsinki Academy of Art. In 2001 Tal R was a studio fellow of the city of Mönchengladbach. In 2003 he held a visiting professorship at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts. Since 2005 Tal R has been teaching a master class in painting at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. His works have been shown in various group and solo exhibitions in Denmark, the USA, Germany, Israel and the UK. In 2009 Tal R arranged his works according to his own curatorial concept at Kunsthalle zu Kiel and Kunsthalle Tübingen.
Tal R has collaborated with Jonathan Meese and Daniel Richter, among others. Together with Kaspar Kaum Bonnén, Kirstine Roepstorff and John Kørner, Tal R is a member of the artist collective Kørners Kontor.
In his works such as paintings, collages and installations, Tal R often uses elements from music, comic aesthetics, TV and old video game graphics. Tal R describes his works himself as Kolbojnik, according to his own description a Yiddish word used in the kibbutzim for the common waste garbage can (the literal meaning would be something like "know-it-all", "smart-ass" or "wise guy").
