Michael Vogt
1957 Willich
Michael Vogt was born in Willich on the Lower Rhine in 1957. He studied at the State Academy of Art in Düsseldorf from 1977 to 1986. His professors included such important teachers as Peter Kleemann and Gerhard Richter.
In 1982, he became a master student of Professor Erwin Heerich. After completing his studies, Vogt turned his back on Germany for almost 20 years and went first to Italy and then to Brazil. In Italy, he familiarized himself with pigment painting, a technique he used to create many of his Ruhrort exhibits.
Vogt paints his small-format pictures in the open air, exposing himself to the often adverse conditions of nature. “I love fair-weather painting,” he says, because the weather does have an influence on the production of his art. These works are created using acrylic paint mixed on site, which requires swift painting in order to quickly capture the impressions and motifs in the picture. The charm of the moment without human intervention is what he incorporates into his art.
Vogt has exhibited extensively in municipal and private galleries as well as in museums in Germany and abroad. For example, his works are permanently on display at the Federal Foreign Office and the German Bundestag in Berlin.
