This Moeris timemachine dates from the 1940s and features the typical characteristics of that era:
Antimagnetic | Targeted protection against magnetic fields became an important quality feature in everyday watches during this period - particularly starting in the 1930s.
Design | The understated stainless steel case, the exclusive anthracite-colored dial with delicate Roman numerals (original radium), and the small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock are characteristic of the minimalist style of Moeris in the late 1930s and 1940s.
Radium | At that time, radium-226 mixed with zinc sulfide was used as the luminescent material. When new, this luminous material was usually whitish-light yellow or light green. Over the decades, however, the radiation emitted by the radium destroys the chemical structure of the zinc sulfide. This causes the material to age, lose its luminosity, and take on a characteristic brownish, dark yellow, or orange-brown discoloration - exactly as seen on the Roman numerals of this watch.
The state of preservation and coloration are 100% original, making it a true collector's dream.

Moeris was a Swiss watch brand dating back to 1893. The watch manufacturer was founded in Saint-Imier in 1893 and produced more than 10 million watches up until 1957. At that time, the company sold high-quality watches featuring 17 or 25 jewels and Incabloc shock protection.
A Moeris licensed watch featuring the countenance of James Bond gained particular fame in 1966. This watch had a rectangular case with beveled corners, giving it an octagonal look comparable to Bulgari’s modern Octo line. The round dial was plain except for the “James Bond 007” logo above the date window at 6 o’clock, but the back featured an engraving of Sean Connery in his signature role. The crown was square and also engraved with “007.”
In 1974, Moeris became part of Rayville, alongside Blancpain. Beginning in 1976, the company listed Villeret as its headquarters, just like Rayville. In 1978, Moeris ceased operations and was acquired by Tissot in 1980. At that time, the company focused on skeleton pocket watches, and soon afterward, it was based in Le Locle alongside Tissot. Production ended after 1985.
