This Rolex vintage dial from the 1960s is distinguished by its striking mix of faceted dagger indices, which take turns with prism indices at the 3, 6, 9 positions. The faceted finish makes the dial particularly eye-catching, while the understated, minimalist off-white color has gradually transformed over the years into a light cream hue.
The dagger indices are a variation of the stick or baton indices, which are wider and taper toward the center of the dial. The effect is more three-dimensional, lending the dial more visual depth. The prism indices feature specially cut, applied markers that refract light in a truly remarkable way. It is a tribute to the high level of craftsmanship of that era to create such a play of light on such a little dial and to highlight the contrasting features that define the personality and character of the individual dial. All this without compromising legibility, but rather emphasizing it.
To top it all off, this dial features not the standard Rolex crown at 12 o’clock, but the super rare “Long Bold Coronet” variant.
Connoisseurs and collectors are well aware of its rarity and can not only distinguish and appreciate these fine little differences, but have already experienced the difference such a “small detail” makes on the wrist.., it’s a BIG one.
This breathtaking 1960s Rolex dial is a veritable work of art.
