U.B. Koch`s Erben
Papeterie Koch, Kornplatz, Chur

The history of today's Papeterie Koch began in 1796, when Benedikt Braun opened a small bookbindery on Kirchgasse in Chur, to which a paper shop was added shortly afterwards. Business was good and soon Braun's son Johannes took over the business, moving it in 1830 to Kornplatz, the present location of Papeterie Koch. The founding of the "Bündner Kalender", which has been publishing interesting facts about the canton of Graubünden for 155 years, also took place during Johannes Braun's time. In 1865, the "Bündner Kalender" was transferred to the Senti & Casanova printing company. Johannes Braun's son Benedikt, in turn, continued to expand his father's business, adding a linotype department and a steel engraving shop. And finally, a print shop was opened in the same building. The steady expansion of Buchdruckerei Braun necessitated the purchase of another property on Kornplatz.

With Benedikt Braun's son-in-law, the name Koch was added to the business. Together with the Utinger family, Felix Koch took over the company during the First World War and led it to what was probably its greatest heyday. At that time, Papeterie Koch specialized in products for the hotel industry and delivered not only within the canton, but also abroad. Hotels from Aussuan, Luxor & Cairo as well as luxury hotels on the Cote d'Azur ordered the products of Papeterie Koch.
