Thorsten Brinkmann
1971 Herne

The Hamburg based artist Thorsten Brinkman finds the building blocks for his sculptures, photographs and spatial installations on the bulky waste discarded by civilization. Everyday, bizarre things are piled up to form pedestals and sculptures or transformed into cabinets of wonder. The artist's body is also used as an objet trouvé. For the photo series “Portraits of a Serialsammler”, for example, Brinkmann puts on found items of clothing and stages himself in front of a background also made out of found objects. Thorsten Brinkmann is a juggler who uses the things of the world equally and introduces art in the spirit of Marcel Duchamp.

His work has been exhibited in many national and international museums and is in following renowned collections a.o.: Collection Hamburger Kunsthalle, Germany; Sammlung des Fotomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland; Collection Rusche, Germany; Collection Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, The Netherlands; Sammlung des Museum der Moderne, Salzburg, Austria; Collection of Pieter and Marieke Sanders, Aerdenhout, The Netherlands; Collection Kunsthalle zu Kiel, Germany; Collection Kunsthalle Bremerhaven, Germany; Collection Falkenberg, Germany; Collection Museo de San Carlos, Mexcio City; Mont Blanc Collection, Germany; Collection Caron, France; Collection Evan Mirapaul, USA; Collection Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte Münster, Germany.
