not for money | for love.
good of love pro toto
love pro toto is a global, nonprofit art project founded by Volker Hildebrandt. The name is derived from the Latin phrase “pars pro toto” (“a part for the whole”) and can freely be translated as “love for the whole world.” The idea is to bring people together - regardless of gender, religion, or background - in a digital community where everyone can express “I love you” and spread love throughout the world.
love pro toto is a “social sculpture”, a work of art in the form of a social network. Or rather: a platform for love on the world wide web. For more information, or to participate in this project, visit: loveprototo(dot)com
And here we present the artwork for this project, titled “for love” - an original work from 2011’s first edition.

At the end of the 1970s, Volker Hildebrandt's work can be classified as conceptual art - dealing with space and time using the means of language. At the beginning of the 1980s, Hildebrandt turned increasingly to the electronic media of television, computer and screen text (BTX), later also video, in order to critically question the processes of image production typical of these devices in his art. The examination of the structure and mode of production of media images is an essential aspect of his art. The perception and reception of media icons from film, art, sports and politics also makes up a large part of his artistic work.
After the introduction of BTX in Germany in 1983, Hildebrandt was the first German artist to use the new medium to broadcast an immaterial exhibition of specially conceived artworks (Bildstörung - Hildebrandt, 1983; BTX Dance, 1983; Hotel Rasputin, 1989), thus making them accessible to many recipients simultaneously and regardless of location.
Volker Hildebrandt's oeuvre includes graphics, painting, video, multimedia, object and drawing.
