Volkmar Schulz-Rumpold

Volkmar Schulz-Rumpold, born in Berlin in 1956, struggles after breaking off his apprenticeship as a gardener and the bankruptcy of his bar with odd jobs when he started drawing in 1985 and painting begins. As a result, his formats became larger and he soon exhibited his works in galleries from; He regularly quarrels with his gallery owners, which is why it never comes to one personal meeting with Susi Brunner, who created a body of work in the 1980s acquired from the artist. Schulz-Rumpold furiously mixes figures and colors that flow into one another. Only Eyes and mouths stand out clearly from the enigmatic sceneries and amplify them expressiveness of the grotesque figures. Remembered on the occasion of a joint exhibition the artist Paul Renner recalls his first impression: «So beautiful, absolutely horrible smeared stuff […] I was incredibly excited about these works.”
